ICEGOV 2014

International Conference on the Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance 27- 30 October 2014, GuimarĂ£es, Portugal

ICEGOV 2014 logoI participated in the 8th International Conference on the Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance, 27-30 October 2014 that took place in Guimarães, Portugal.

The ICEGOV series focuses on the use of technology to transform the working of government and its relationships with citizens, businesses and other non-state actors in order to improve public governance and its contribution to public policy and development. The main purpose of ICEGOV2014 is to explore research and policy implications and discuss way forward for technology-enabled and data-intensive public governance in the post-2015 world.

The ICEGOV series is a truly global conference, last year with participation from 48 different countries, sharing ideas and experiences from all parts of the world. What is striking is how much we can actually learn from each other. Concepts may go by different names on different continents, but the problems faced by governments are very often the same.

This year I was part of the program committee reviewing papers for acceptance into the conference.

I co-chaired the track 6 on Leadership and Organisation (27, 29, and 30 October), and I was a panellist in the  Plenary Discussion 6 – Is Electronic Governance Strengthening or Undermining Public Governance? on 30 October 9:40 - 10:20 am.

Plenary Discussion 6 - Is Electronic Governance strengthening or Undermining Public Governance?

#ICEGOV: @LouiseThomasen - Ability to create effective #egov systems does not render public monitoring and feedback mechanisms unnecessary.
